En el mes siguiente, ya vivían juntos y dos años más tarde regularizaron la relación, contrayendo matrimonio en una ceremonia íntima y que no trasciende al público. En febrero de 1946, tras una campaña electoral en que la presencia de Evita fue marcante, Perón es electo presidente de la Argentina.
