Militante popular consustanciado con las ideas de Juan Domingo Perón, gran aficionado a la historia argentina, a los ensayos políticos e ideológicos y a la poesía, participó precozmente en el movimiento peronista en los primeros años del 70 desde la Agrupación Amado Olmos de la CGT de los Argentinos.

Fundador a inicios de la dictadura, junto a Víctor de Genaro, de la Agrupación Nacional Unidad y Solidaridad de ATE, llegó a ser secretario general de la filial porteña de la Asociación de Trabajadores del Estado y diputado nacional en las listas justicialistas para las elecciones de 1989.

Gestor y alma mater del “Grupo de los ocho” que, integrado entre otros por Carlos Chacho Álvarez, Darío Alessandro, Moisés Fontenla y Luis Brunatti, se opuso a las políticas menemistas desde el ideario peronista, fue autor de la Ley de Convenios Colectivos para el Empleo Público, conocida en la actualidad como Ley Abdala.

Luego de luchar durante años contra un raro y cruel cáncer de columna vertebral, abandonó su tratamiento en los Estados Unidos para participar del acto fundacional de la Central de Trabajadores Argentinos, convencido de que era posible una nueva clase de sindicalismo, lejos de las prácticas vandoristas, burocráticas y/o empresariales. Un nuevo sindicalismo del que él mismo fue paradigma, emblema y enseñanza para las nuevas generaciones.
